History
In April of 1974 the Prince Edward Island Nurses’ Act was amended to permit collective bargaining for nurses through the Provincial Collective Bargaining Committee of the Association of Nurses of P.E.I. This structure remained in place until September of 1987 when, after years of lobbying, the Labour Act was amended to give nurses their bargaining rights through the Prince Edward Island Nurses’ Union, completely separate from the Association of Nurses of P.E.I.
